The first out of the oven were the 'big' gingerbread houses. I whipped these up as a way to entertain two little playmates coming to visit one afternoon and they seemed to be a success! A lot of sugary treats seemed to be eaten along the way and some managed to actually make it to the house.
This got me thinking that while they are great fun to decorate it's way too much biscuit for one family to consume and such a waste to throw away so I decided to make miniature gingerbread houses. I found some coaster sized mdf squares at the local craft shop along with some cake board foil paper to cover it with and then created a house template to fit the base measurements using card. Another batch of gingerbread later ... the mini houses were born! I filled these up with individually wrapped candy canes, a quick dust of icing sugar and some cellophane and there we have it - the perfect gift!
